Q&A:

  • Q:Why is the ZGR-2 or SmartShutter LED flashing?

A:The ZGR-2 will flash under a couple conditions:
    1. The ZGR-2’s red LED light will flash three times when it is attached to the camera. (This is hard to notice.)
    2. Once the it is successfully connected to an accessory with a correctly installed app, the green LED light will flash three time.
    3. When the focus is set to HOLD status, the green light will flash once. Toggling options on the camera itself will not cause the LED to flash.
The SmartShutter will flash under a couple conditions:
    1. The SmartShutter's red LED light will flash three times when pressing button in SmartShutter.
    2. Once the it is successfully connected to an accessory with a correctly installed app, the green LED light will flash three time.
    3. When the focus is set to HOLD status, the green light will flash once. Toggling options on the camera itself will not cause the LED to flash.

  • Q:Why can’t my app connect to my ZGR-2 or SS accessory?

A: the iOS Bluetooth function has some bugs. These are more widespread in the iPhone 5/5s/5c and iOS 6.1.3 versions. Make sure to update your iOS to the latest version. If the problem persists, follow these steps to re-activate the Bluetooth function:
    1. Under, “Settings,” turn Bluetooth off, and then on again.
    2. Launch our SmartShutter App, and try to connect again.

If the problem persists, try follow these steps:
    * Remove SmartShutter App, then install it again. (AppStore)
    * Restart and Reset iPhone. (Apple Support)
    * Restore iOS (Apple Support)

  • Q: Although I’ve pushed the red button from the focus position to the shut position, the shutter of the camera is not responding, and the meter lights are flashing. Why?

A: Focus times are different for different camera and lens models. Try again with these steps:
    1. Re-seat the accessory connections, ensuring a firm connection.
    2. Set your focus mode to manual.

  • Q:Do I have to keep the app open?

A:It is not necessary to keep the app open in the foreground. For the ZGR-2 series, once it has been connected to an accessory, the GPS data will be sent to the camera even with the app in the background. The GPS logging functions of the ZGR-2 and SmartShutter series record GPS data in the background, and you can match the GPS log to your photos later on.

  • Q:What is the maximum distance from which I can use the remote camera control feature?

A: This device operates from over 30 meters (98 feet) away, up to 60 meters (196 feet) away. These ranges allow for easy self photography and animal photography.

  • Q:How many cameras can be controlled with one iPhone.

A:Theoretically, up to 10 cameras can be controlled with one iPHone. If you are using the ZGR-2’s GPS logging feature with an iPhone to send GPS data to all the connected cameras, we recommend you use no more than 5 cameras at once.

  • Q:Can all connected Nikon cameras record GPS information at the same time?

A: Yes! And, you can control their exposures separately.

  • Q:How long does the SmartShutter’s battery last, and where can I buy replacements?

A: The SmartShutter series, using Bluetooth 4.0 LE technology, does not need very much powe, and has an auto sleep feature. This makes it very power efficient. A button battery will typically last 3 to 6 months. The model of the battery used is CR2032, which can be found online or at specialty electronics retailers.
